Give Yourself a Plug!
Howdy & Welcome to Rocket Rider…
This is Bruce, and I’m learning lots about setting up this blog, getting visitors, and just lately, the difference between DoFollow links & Nofollow links.
In a nutshell, most blogs these days add the nofollow code to every outside link from their pages and posts, as this keeps their Page Rank from following onto your page. This can be from any link you’ve made, as in a blog comment for instance. Good for the blog owner, not so good for you though! Quite often, a blog will start out as Dofollow, but as the blog gets larger, the owner will turn it into a Nofollow, which to me is just a little “arrogant”!
Rocket Rider is not that big (yet) so we are definitely Dofollow!
That brings up though, just how do other folk get a place to showcase themselves & get some of that precious link juice. Hence the creation of this page, & though I’d love to take credit for the idea, I “borrowed” it from Ana at Traffic Generation Cafe – thanks Ana!
Introducing …..
Give Yourself a Plug
Simply a place to promote yourself, brand yourself, grab some link juice & have a little fun…
It’s as simple as 1-2-3
Just make a comment to:
- Do some introductions,
- Tell us a little about yourself,
- Ask if you need some help with anything,
- Tell us your passions.
(OK, that’s 4!)
In a nutshell – PROMOTE YOURSELF!
Being online is not a lot different than in the “real world”, success comes with networking and meeting new folk, and it’s my hope this will be a great place to do that.
Keep it real & keep it clean – remember you want folk to come & visit, and they wont if your comment’s questionable…
Take a minute of two & look around Rocket Rider, and please, leave a comment on a post or two. Yes, it’s called a win/win, I get to look better in the eyes of the search engines, and you get a link back to your website. And In case you were wondering I always respond to quality comments on my blog.
But Bruce, isn’t this just a shameless way to do some self promotion?
Guilty as charged! But the way I see it, when it’s a win/win for everybody, I’m just fine with that.
Here’s another idea I borrowed from Ana on how you can gain Twitter exposure: check back to see when I’ve approved your comment, (I do that daily), then return to this page, and “Tweet” the “Twitter” button below.
Great free advertising, as if you add me @therocketrider, then not only all YOUR followers get to read about you, but all MINE to.
Let’s hope you get some great exposure, and in case you’re wondering what you can do in return?
Quite simply, share this page, be it to your list, via Facebook, Twitter or what have you, (the buttons are all down below), and let me know what you think, the good, the bad & the ugly are all welcomed.
It will be TRULY appreciated.
Thanks,

Hey Bruce, just found your site from a comment you left on http://eco-chick.com about the author’s truvia rant. Funny to go from one topic like that, to this site, while browsing! Although I don’t necessarily agree with your comment there, I found it refreshing to hear a different voice among the “tee-totalers”. BTW, I also love Ana and her blog, so it sounds like we have a lot in common.
Anyway, by way of introduction, I’m an e-commerce consultant for a living. I’ve worked in web development since 1998, and piddled with it as far back as 1994. I also enjoy internet marketing and blogging (and any cross-over between those three areas). When I’m away from the computer I run, teach Zumba, and have fun with my three kids.
And thank you very much for the link! Without getting far into the debate above, I take them where I can get them and I just want you to know how much I appreciate it. And that it’s quite nice to “meet” you. Cheers!

Thanks for stopping by Susan. I couldn’t even remember the post you found me on, but did a re read just now. While it’s fine to not agree, I do appreciate taking the time to follow through with your comment. I do wish that a lot of people frequenting that blog would get their facts right and not just broad brush every product/company/development that doesn’t fit their narrow focus as being “evil”.
I have an overly zealous relative who is pretty public with her damnation of pretty near everything you can put in your mouth, and challenged her one day on where the got her information from, you guessed it, good old Google. Anybody who has dabbled in any internet marketing (you and me) know just how accurate everything you read on Google is, right?
Must go and finish my Truvia sweetened, non organic coffee, with some nice cream from a cow that has a steady diet of genetically modified corn!

Hey Bruce,
my online name is Sire and I am a blogaholic. I actually run several blogs but WassupBlog is definitely my favourite with my photo blogs a close behind. Then it would have to be my load of BS blog
Wassupblog has always been a dofollow blog and until the last update it’s been a PR4 blog but has just dropped to PR3. Not that I bother with PR. I much prefer a good SERPS listing than PR.

Gidday Sire – Yes, that PR thing is a bit of a mystery isn’t it. On this last update I increased (albeit from a zero to a 1!!) so I’m not complaining.

Hi Bruce, Nice idea to provide self promotion place. I have just started my 2nd blog and would love this idea.
Though I would say I usually doesn’t go into do-follow and no-follow debate, comment on many blogs create a links, may be it gets do-follow love or it will get few new visitors…any how its a gain.

Sanjeev – You are on the right track, you need a mix of links back, both do follow & no follow. All of do follow looks a little unnatural.
btw, I enjoyed your post on Windows Live Writer & will be putting it to good use shortly.

Hi Bruce
This is an excellent post. I am a Virtual Assistant and have my own blog where I post about outsourcing and give tips on how to make working online a simple process.
My passion is to help people and give them back time so that they can concentrate on other areas of their business – This can either be to spend much needed time with their family or to drive more revenue into their business.
I’m looking forward to reading more comments from this post.

thanks for the add on twitter, yeah the page is strange looked around the site and found every other one has Titles set. As for photography, I’ve been on hold for a while, broken collar bone, then fractured foot and detached and torn tendon, just as I had started to get repeat clients.
Not been a good few years, so forced back to web development and SEO, I thought I was out when I went into photography! Did it from October 1994 to 2008 and started back last year, just trying to catch up on all the latest SEO and google panda updates!

I read your article over at Daily SEO and thought I’d come and thank you for it, I too enjoy camping and gardening!
I did have a question though, why do you have this site setup without a Title? When I looked at the source all I saw was: that seems odd for someone that works with SEO. Or is there some SEO reason for it?

Thanks for letting me know from where you “arrived”. I see you are a photographer too. Let me know when you have some content up on your site. Not sure why no title was showing, as it is set withing the WP theme I’m using. Appreciate the heads up, (as well as the follows etc!)

Hi Joel,
I’ve been concentrating on Guest Blogging recently, & I believe it’ll be the turning point for me. You have to do it right though – maybe take a peek at the mention of James Martell on this post.
Hey Bruce,
Thanks for the opportunity to do a little self promotion.
The blog I am currently promoting is all about link building. There are some articles there that beginner bloggers would definitely benefit from. I share a four phase process for building up backlinks for any new blog. Start there.
If anyone reading this wants to learn how to become a more efficient link builder, then they should follow me on Twitter. I don’t tweet everything I come across with this Twitter account. I only Tweet useful things I have found.
Love your attitude Bruce!

In my years marketing offline before we had computers and since I have always found that if you focus on giving without considering what you might get in return the universe takes care of paying the dividends so more often than not you wind up getting back more than you gave. Online you are not restricted geographically so the opportunities for giving, sharing and developing valuable professional relationships are far greater but the same principles apply. All the best with your blog Bruce and if you have the likes of Ana visiting you’ll do well.
I agree totally. If you have a blog and don’t make it able to take do follows, then you will never get the needed amount of traffic for your blog.
Wow! I’m really amazed by your honesty. I just started in the IM world and so far I’m loving it, to be honest I haven’t make a single penny but I the see options and end-less possibilities it offers. Wish you best of luck!

Hi Bruce
I am about to get serious with respect to backlinking for all of my sites as I beleive that will be the key to growing my income over the next year.
So I will start write here with this comment on your website.

Hey Bruce,
Well, I’ll take advantage of your invitation and add a little something about me here. OK, here I go.
My name is Adrienne Smith and I’ve been online now for about 4 years. I failed miserably a good part of those trying everything in the book. Slowly but surely it all started falling into place once I acquired the right information. From here it’s only been uphill ever since.
For those who are just starting out and still really confused about how to do a lot of stuff online, I’ve created a training site that will help each and every one of you over your hump. Oh, and it’s 100% free. You can find that at:
http://www.homebusinessbasictraining.com
I am also an affiliate marketer and I show you how to build your business from the ground up. I spill my guts to be honest with you and I walk you through everything I’m doing. You can also grab my free reports that will also help tremendously with understanding how to get started. You can read all about that at my New Super Affiliate Blog:
http://www.newsuperaffiliateblog.com
And of course I have my main blog where I will continue to help you learn and grow as you weed yourself through this maze of the online world.
http://adriennesmith.net
Thanks so much for taking the time to read more about what I’m involved in. I am very passionate about helping others realize that they can have anything they want online but only if they are willing to do the work. You can’t go wrong with someone showing you how!
Have a blessed day everyone and thanks again Bruce! Glad Ana was able to show us all how to help others in this way.

Agree, I think this is a good way to get a backlink. The value of it, well, only big G and the other search engines can tell and they don’t.
Except for a link back to my website I also enjoy reading this blog. It has given me a number of great tips!
- Hans
@Shawn – I would respectfully disagree, Shawn, that a link is a link.
Roughly speaking, to get your page from PR 0 to PR 1 you’ll need about 100 PR 1 links vs only one PR 10 link. (Of course, those are impossible to get, but that’s still a good example).
So you tell me if a link is still a link.
@Bruce – thanks so much for the mention, Bruce! Glad you liked the idea, and you know what – now that you know how I bring thousands of people from Twitter, why not duplicate the process and give your blog some traffic boost?
Ana
Hey Shawn,
I agree a link is a link is a link, however I do think some are better than others.
Thanks for visiting…
Bruce
Ahh the no follow/do follow debate. One guy will tell you it matters, the next that it doesn’t. My take? A link is a link. Would I buy a no-follow link? Perhaps. Here is the kicker in all of the link discussions. I have built links slow, fast, haphazardly at best and they all seem to work. At least at some level.
Take for instance, this blog. Bruce just got fresh, UNIQUE content on his blog and I just got myself a nice link on a non-spammy blog from an IP address that is not on the list of links I already have. A win in my book.
So folks, go grab some links. Any link is a good link!
-Shawn
