I was born in New Zealand and my first job was a “junior” trainee at a Stock Firm, (a national merchandising store for the agricultural sector).
After a couple of years we hired another “junior” called Robbie. Straight out of school , he’d been exposed to flying airplanes thanks to the Boy Scouts & had attended a flying school.
He was hooked! All he could think about was getting his commercial license and becoming a “Top Dressing Pilot” (piloting a small plane used to aerially apply fertilizer over the steep NZ farms). He spent every available penny on getting to the flying club, ferrying small Cessna training planes to different towns flying clubs, all in an effort to build up his hours in pursuit of his goal. Didn’t drink, didn’t play rugby, didn’t own a car, didn’t do pretty well everything young Kiwi lads did in the 70′s.
Just wanted to be a pilot!
Over the years of course we lost touch & I often wondered if he’d achieved his goal.
Fast forward to just this March, & I was back in NZ & visiting an old friend on his farm, & you guessed it, he was in the midst of applying his fertilizer. Yep, guessed it again, this daredevil style plane was piloted by my old co-worker Robbie.
He achieved his goal shortly after I lost touch with him you see, & had spent the last 30 years doing exactly what he’d dreamed of ever since being a teenager.
He got there by having a vision, by blocking out all distractions, & by refusing to listen when told he couldn’t do it.
Well done Robbie, you taught me something I need to apply in my pursuit of my dream, creating a sustainable income through online marketing.
I start focusing today….
